The Referring Worker: A Key Role in the FGDM Process
Why this training?
The referring worker has significant responsibilities in the FGDM process, but often feels uncomfortable, unprepared for the meeting, or unsure of his or her role and how best to meet his or her responsibilities. This one-day training can be delivered directly to referring workers to increase their skills, knowledge and competency with their role in FGDM processes. This training can also benefit coordinators by providing them with strategies for preparing referring workers for their role in the process.
Workers will learn how to:
- Determine which families can be referred, and when
- Understand your role
- Present information to the family group
- Follow up after the conference
Coordinators will learn how to:
- Plan collaboratively
- Achieve worker “buy-in” of the FGDM process and values
- Address referring workers’ fears and concerns about the FGDM process
- Adequately prepare the referring worker for the conference
- Develop a shared purpose for the conference between the referring worker and family members
