Family Group Decision Making Trainings
Preparation is Crucial: The Nuances to Coordinating Family Conferences
Why this training?
Preparation is critically important to the safety and success of FGDM processes. Thorough preparation involves working with all participants to determine the purpose of the family conference, sharing information on the child protection issues and considering possible safety risks that could come about once the conference begins. By preparing families before the conference, you give them time to process pertinent information, think of questions and get ready to plan and make decisions. This two-day training will help FGDM coordinators and facilitators develop collaborative relationships with parents, family members, social workers and others.
You will learn:
- Prepare participating individuals for the FGDM process.
- Include the voices of children and others who are unable to, or choose not to, attend a family meeting in person.
- Mobilize and widen families’ circles of support and informal networks.
- Create a safe environment for the FGDM process.
