American Humane and 20th Century Fox Host Premieres of ‘Marley & Me’
American Humane and 20th Century Fox celebrated the human-animal bond during special pre-screening events of Marley & Me in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Denver, a week ahead of the movie’s national release. American Humane monitored all of the animal action in the film and awarded it an Outstanding rating and the “No Animals Were Harmed”® end-credit disclaimer. The film is based on the best-selling book about a family and its rambunctious Labrador retriever.
On Dec. 17 in New York City, 20th Century Fox hosted a reception and pre-screening of Marley & Me at the Tribeca Cinemas, which is known for the Tribeca Film Festival. American Humane was represented by board of directors members Carla Zilka of New York and Eric Bruner of Boston. Guests were encouraged to bring their own dogs to the event!
At the screening held in Washington at the Goethe-Institut, also on Dec. 17, guests included animal-welfare organizations, animal-centric media and representatives of Capitol Hill. Prior to watching the movie, the guests enjoyed a talk by American Humane’s CEO, Marie Belew Wheatley, who discussed American Humane’s Film & TV Unit and “No Animals Were Harmed,” as well as the human-animal bond.
The event in Denver on Dec. 18 included a “meet and greet” with one of the animal actors who portrayed Marley. Outside the theater, guests took tours of American Humane’s Red Star Animal Emergency Services™ vehicles. Safe Harbor Lab Rescue and American Humane’s Denver Pet Partners animal-assisted therapy team were also on hand to share information about adopting and working with dogs of Marley’s breed.
The event followed the “12 Days of Marley” Dog Food and Blanket Drive, which collected approximately 3 tons of dog and cat food for Denver-area animal shelters and rescue groups, including Safe Harbor Lab Rescue, Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue, Retriever Rescue of Colorado, The Misha May Foundation and the Evergreen Animal Protective League.
