The Link of Violence
About the National Resource Center
Created in 1999, American Humane’s National Resource Center on The Link Between Violence to People and Animals is available to assist professionals interested in preventing violence by providing resources and training regarding the connections between human violence and animal cruelty.
The Resource Center provides training and technical assistance to community organizations and coalitions; a Speakers Bureau for local, regional and national workshops; and a growing library of nearly 1,000 print and multimedia Link-related resources and a multidisciplinary contact database. Topics in the library include:
- Animal cruelty and domestic violence
- Children who are cruel
- Animal cruelty and elder abuse
- Animal cruelty and child abuse
- Fire starting and animal abuse
- Legislation/government petitions
- Teaching humane behavior
- Animal cruelty/human violence
- The cycle of violence
- Court cases on The Link
Through these resources and with a commitment to responsiveness and customer service, it is our goal to provide Resource Center clients with the most up-to-date information available.
We encourage agencies and organizations to share information, strategies, successes, failures, and methods so that unnecessary duplication is prevented. With this information, the Resource Center can facilitate networking among communities and help individuals and groups both share successful practices and discuss potential challenges.
