Teachable Moments: Opening Windows of Opportunity (For Humane Educators)
Humane education describes a broad range of opportunities to convey accurate, appropriate information about living things to a diverse audience. It could be giving school kids an opportunity to get out of math and listen to a fun speaker. It might be adults at a church supper listening to a presenter from an animal shelter. For some it is a visit with an unusual animal or the opportunity to earn a patch in scouting.
No matter the situation, humane education presenters have a unique opportunity to get the audience thinking about what "humane" means, as well as teach empathy, kindness and responsibility for living things. In this course, you'll learn techniques for creating programs and lesson plans for kids and adults that are fun, affordable and interactive, and filled with age-appropriate information. All the programs highlighted in the presentation can be easily duplicated or used as a model for your own programs.
