About Us

Do we know all there is to know about animal welfare? Not yet, but we're getting there — with our pioneering Animal Welfare Research Institute.

We bring together doctors, veterinarians, psychologists, animal behaviorists, nutritionists, computer scientists and other experts to find answers to questions like:

  • Why are so many cats and dogs abandoned or given away?
  • Why is cancer the number-one cause of death in dogs over the age of 2?
  • Why is obesity a growing problem for both pets and children?

 

American Humane Association's Animal Welfare Research Institute:

 

  • Creates citizen scientists of pet owners, care providers and animal lovers.
  • Funds innovative science and training programs for animal welfare.
  • Trains veterinary scientists to meet the changing needs of our world.
  • Connects the dots between the well-being of animals and that of people.
  • Puts ANIMALS and CHILDREN first.
