In celebration of the upcoming release “The Back-up Plan,” CBS Films (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS) announced today that it is teaming with the American Humane Association to host a nationwide pet adoption event. “The Back-up Plan,” a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin, will debut in US theaters on April 23, 2010. In the film, Zoe (Lopez) owns Hudson Mutts, a hip Greenwich Village pet boutique that caters to pet adoptions and environmentally friendly, healthy pet care. Her decision to create a socially conscious pet store was inspired by her dog Nuts – a featured character in the film. CBS Films and American Humane are working with a targeted American Humane member shelter in each of the 12 selected markets to organize the pet adoption events. CBS Films, established in 2007, plans to produce four to six movies a year spanning all genres, with production budgets up to around $50 million per film.
CBS Films is currently in post-production on the edgy teen romance Beastly which is set to debut in theaters on July 30, 2010. The film stars Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer, and is written and directed by Daniel Barnz. Beastly is based on the Alex Flinn novel of the same name. The studio is in production on the revenge thriller Faster, a co-production with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group, starring Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton and newcomer Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The film, which started production in February 2010, is directed by George Tillman, Jr. from a screenplay by Tony and Joe Gayton.
