American Humane is looking for a dedicated, self-motivated Operations Specialist for the Animal Protection Division at American Humane’s headquarters in Denver, Colorado.

Responsibilities include:

  • Continually demonstrate high integrity, openness, professionalism and transparency.
  • Manage Animal Emergency Services and Big Truck Program operations based on the needs of the various Animal Protection Division Programs as directed by the Animal Protection Division Vice President and Animal Emergency Services Program Manager.
  • Performance orientation: Ensure that plans with resources, milestones, metrics and contingencies are developed, communicated and implemented.
  • Client orientation: Knowledge and insights about clients and needs (includes Animal Protection Division Program Managers, State and Federal Emergency Management entities, American Humane Members, etc.) is essential.
  • Work with the Animal Emergency Services Program Manager and appropriate individuals to create Standard Operating Procedures for deployment of the Big Truck in disaster situations.
  • The Animal Emergency Services Operations Specialist has donor management and expense responsibility for the Big Truck events and must provide administration of donor tracking/recording in coordination with the Program Manager of Animal Emergency Services and the Director of Finance for Programs.
  • Represent American Humane at public events.
  • Write reports, memos, and correspondence in response to questions regarding The Big Truck.
  • In coordination with MarCom, speak with reporters when required about program standards and work on the marketing/advertising/promotion of the Program to various stakeholders in partnership with the Marketing and Promotions Manager for Animal Emergency Services.
  • Establish methods and procedures to ensure open and effective communications both horizontally and vertically within the organization. Prepare and communicate technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive the Big Truck vehicle to various events and to emergency relief areas.
  • Maintain service records and make arrangements for vehicle maintenance.
  • Make arrangements and oversee the washing, waxing and cleaning of vehicles.
  • Make and meet appointments with vehicle service organizations for scheduled and routine maintenance.
  • Assures Animal Emergency Services fleet vehicles are in good working order at all times.
  • Assures vehicle components including generators, the physical plant, all Animal Emergency Services equipment and the four-wheel drive vehicles are well maintained at all times.
  • Assist in event set-up and take down of equipment for public events and disaster responses.
  • Maintain Department of Transportation documents and records.
  • Assist in disaster responses and in rescuing efforts.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as tractor trailer vehicle, boats, generators, chainsaws, technical rescue equipment, and animal control equipment.

Requirements:

Candidate must possess a certificate of completion from an accredited tractor-trailer training institution or the equivalent combination of training and experience, and a Class A Commercial Drivers License. Three or more years of responsible experience which involved driving and maintaining a large vehicle is required. Three or more years of animal welfare/rescue first responder and/or non-profit experience desirable. This position will require extensive travel as well as irregular hours including nights and weekends. As outlined in the D.O.T. regulations section 382, candidates must pass a drug test. Candidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. This position is full time and includes great benefits. We provide a casual, friendly atmosphere. The annual salary range for this position will be $45,000 to $50,000 depending on experience. Local candidates strongly preferred; no relocation assistance is available for this position.
