WASHINGTON – Mark Stubis has been appointed Chief Communications Officer at American Humane Association, the nation’s voice for the protection of children and animals. Stubis joins the historic national nonprofit organization after more than 15 years of service at KidsPeace, where he was Vice President for Communications.
“Mark Stubis brings an outstanding record of increasing the visibility, influence and revenues of national organizations through strategic communications,” said American Humane Association President and Chief Executive Officer Robin R. Ganzert, Ph.D. “His leadership in this area will help us make tremendous strides in letting the nation and the world know about the great work we are doing every day on behalf of children and animals, as well as supporting our expansion to serve even more of the voiceless and vulnerable members of society.”
Reporting to the President and CEO, Stubis is based in American Humane Association’s national headquarters in Washington, D.C. His responsibilities include managing the organization’s communications function; developing media and public relations strategy; overseeing the work of marketing, communications and media relations staff; and directing the development of marketing and communications deliverables.

Stubis worked at KidsPeace since 1993, where he was responsible for a wide range of media, public and stakeholder relations for this leading national child abuse prevention and crisis treatment charity. He spearheaded tremendously successful strategic communications campaigns and contributed to the dramatic organizational transformation that saw the tripling of the number of centers, a tripling of revenues, and more than a billion children and families reached with critical prevention information. Previously, he was Assistant Director of Communications for United Negro College Fund and was Communications Director for the organization’s successful $250 million capital campaign. His career also includes writing positions with Newsweek magazine and Edelman Public Relations. Stubis’ expertise has been eagerly sought out, and he has served as a columnist covering nonprofit, communications and marketing, environmental, and health issues for a number of newspapers, blogs and international news services, including Health News Digest, The Santa Monica Star, Examiner.com and Global Newsbytes. He has received several national and international awards for his work in communications and media relations.
