America’s Fastest-Growing Farm Animal Welfare Label – American Humane® Certified – to Exhibit at Worldwide Food Expo

Denver (October 26, 2009)

American Humane® Certified will exhibit at the Worldwide Food Expo, October 28–31, 2009, at McCormick Place in Chicago to showcase the fastest-growing animal welfare label for food producers. The American Humane Certified program provides independent certification of the humane treatment and care of farm animals.

The Worldwide Food Expo is the world’s largest food and beverage technology event in North America. Expo attendees are invited to visit American Humane Certified at Booth #S4561 to learn about the audit process that verifies humane farm animal care. The American Humane Certified program is not only good for animals, but also good for people and good for business.

Earlier this month, American Humane Certified officially launched its new Humane Farm Training program for animal handlers, which focuses on the training of best practices from the science-based standards originated by American Humane Certified and its Scientific Advisory Committee. The new training will soon be available online, as well as on-site.

An important aspect of the humane animal-handling curriculum is the early recognition of behavior or health problems that could be detrimental to the individual animal or the entire flock or herd. It also addresses animal welfare issues and poor animal husbandry that are created by a lack of worker/handler knowledge.

American Humane Certified has developed a three-tiered audit system, True Humane Tracking™, which includes video monitoring of producers’ operations. It is the first animal welfare program to use video monitoring, thereby enhancing transparency, accountability and consistency of the certification of animal welfare. The program also offers proprietary online monitoring for producers, in addition to annual on-site audits.

American Humane Certified is America’s first and original farm animal welfare program. Food producers totaling more than 60 million farm animals have been certified by American Humane’s science-based program, responding to consumer and retailer demand for independent, third-party verification of their practices.

American Humane works closely with its independent Scientific Advisory Committee, industry professionals and producers to ensure that industry advancements and best practices are part of American Humane certification standards. Based on American Humane’s 132-year legacy of advocating for the humane treatment of farm animals, consumers trust the American Humane Certified label.

American Humane invites all guests and media to come learn why American Humane Certified is the fastest-growing farm animal welfare label in the U.S. at booth S4561 at the Worldwide Food Expo.

About American Humane® Certified

American Humane Certified is the United States’ first animal welfare program dedicated to the humane treatment of farm animals. It is the fastest-growing independent animal welfare label program in the U.S. American Humane has certified producers representing more than 60 million farm animals through American Humane’s science-based program. Contracted third-party auditors are rigorously trained in American Humane Certified species-specific standards. As consumers and retailers are increasingly concerned about how food is raised, producers are seeking independent verification for the marketplace. American Humane Certified believes animal welfare should not only be good for animals, but also economically viable and feasible for producers. American Humane Certified works with agriculture to educate and motivate producers and demonstrate the economic and social benefits of animal welfare. American Humane Certified works closely with its independent Scientific Advisory Committee, industry professionals and producers to ensure that industry advancements and best practices are part of American Humane certification standards. Based on American Humane’s 132-year legacy of being the gold standard for humane behavior, consumers trust the American Humane Certified label. Learn more at www.thehumanetouch.org.
