HBO’s ‘Temple Grandin’ Movie Applauded
- The American Humane Association and the Federation of Animal Science Societies (FASS) today praised the new HBO movie, Temple Grandin, which aired Saturday, Feb. 6. The movie depicts the life of Temple Grandin as a young woman struggling with the challenges of autism to become a successful doctor of animal science through her unique connection to animals. Dr. Grandin is widely recognized within the animal welfare and livestock-handling industries as a pioneer in the ethical treatment of animals.

Seized Dogs from Suspected Puppy Mill Flying to New York Today
- In a great example of collaboration, the American Humane Association’s animal emergency responders will load 34 seized dogs from a suspected Mississippi puppy mill onto a plane today operated by Denver’s Pet Airways and flown to New York ASPCA’s (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) headquarters for adoption. This is a culmination of five days of working together with the Marshall County Humane Society after 95 dogs and one cat were removed from the property.

American Humane Assisting with Animal-Handling and Sheltering Operations in Mississippi Puppy Mill Investigation
- The American Humane Association, at the request of the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and under the authority and request of Shirley C. Byers of the Marshall County (Miss.) Prosecutor’s Office, is assisting in animal-handling and sheltering operations in the investigation of a Marshall County puppy mill, where 96 dogs were seized today.

American Humane was, therefore, surprised to learn that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has recognized the film and its director for using computer-generated images (CGI) instead of live animals.

American Humane® Certified Responds to Inhumane Dairy Practices Shown on ABC’s ‘Nightline’
- American Humane® Certified, a program of the American Humane Association that helps ensure the humane treatment of farm animals for food, responded today that the practice of tail docking dairy cows is not a humane practice and is disallowed in its standards. The response came following the airing of an ABC “Nightline” segment in which cows’ tails were shown being removed without anesthesia.

American Humane Association Joins On-the-Ground Animal Response Team in Haiti
- The American Humane Association’s program manager for Animal Emergency Services has deployed to Haiti to assist in an international effort to help animals affected by the earthquake. Tracy Reis, an expert responder who has participated in the rescue and sheltering of more than 12,000 animals, will arrive in Port-au-Prince Thursday as part of the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti, which is jointly led by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).
